ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a man who fell off a commercial fishing vessel into the Atlantic Ocean off northeast Florida.
The Coast Guard reports that Peter Steewell of Pompano Beach fell into the water while swordfishing Thursday afternoon about 400 miles east of St. Augustine.
Officials said Friday that a commercial freight ship bound for Spain was diverted to join Coast Guard crews in the search.
The Coast Guard says Steewell wasn't wearing a life jacket when he fell.
Steewell's vessel, a 57-foot longliner fishing vessel called The Fine Tuna, is based in Wanchese, N.C.
