LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. -– A two-year-old Conure parrot was rescued from a burning Lauderdale Lakes home by firefighters Monday afternoon.
Broward County Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene in the 4300 block of NW 50 Avenue after a man woke up to the sound of two explosions around 3 p.m.
When the man went outside, he saw his pickup truck fully engulfed in flames which also spread to the house from the carport his vehicle was parked in.
Firefighters entered the house and put out the interior fire. Crews also encountered a running fuel fire underneath the pickup truck and extinguished it with chemical agents.
During their efforts, firefighters located Babe, a parrot stuck in its cage in a smoke-filled bedroom of the house. They then reunited the pet with its owner.
There was heavy smoke damage throughout the home but officials say the fire damage was contained to the part of the house where the carport was.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire that originated in the pickup truck is under investigation by the Broward Sheriff Fire Marshal’s Bureau and the State Fire Marshals Office.
