LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. - Two carjacking suspects were shot, one fatally, by Broward Sheriff's Office deputies early Monday, authorities said.
According to BSO spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion, the incident began shortly after 1:30 a.m. when detectives who were leaving the scene of an earlier home invasion investigation were flagged down by man outside the Woodsdale Oaks apartment complex along the 2500 block of Northwest 49th Avenue in Lauderdale Lakes.
The man said his vehicle had been carjacked by several men driving a white van and that his car and the van were then driven inside the apartment complex. Deputies went inside the complex and spotted the white van, Concepcion said.
"There was a confrontation, shots were fired," she said.
Two people were shot and three others were taken into custody, Concepcion said.
The two who were shot were taken to Broward General Medical Center where one of them died.
According to Concepcion, investigators at the scene found a weapon and the green car that been stolen.
No identities have been release and the investigation is continuing.
The earlier home invasion took place in a residence along the 4700 block of Northwest 24th Court. Investigators don't yet know if the two incidents are related, BSO said.
