MIAMI (AP) -- The mother of a Florida teenager slain by a neighborhood watch volunteer will be able to take about eight months of paid leave from her county job.

The Miami Herald reports Sybrina Fulton has collected $40,825 worth of donated vacation time from fellow county employees. She has worked for the Miami-Dade County housing authority 23 years.

Fulton's son, Trayvon Martin, was shot and killed in February by George Zimmerman in a case that sparked a national outcry. Zimmerman has been charged with second-degree murder and has been released on bond.

Martin's family has raised nearly $100,000 that will be used to launch a criminal justice advocacy foundation.

Zimmerman has raised more than $200,000. His attorney says money has been spent on bond, paying debts, and arranging secure living quarters.
