Miami-Dade police kill man who escaped, tried to run them down in car

MIAMI -- Police say officers responding to a suspicious person call fatally shot a man who got into a police vehicle and tried to run them down.

The incident happened late Tuesday night.

Miami-Dade police say the arriving officers found the suspect and began interviewing him. They say he provided false information and refused to provide a reasonable explanation for his presence in the area and for his conduct.

When the officers tried to handcuff him, he struggled with them and broke free.

That's when he got into the police car and tried to run the officers over.

An officer shot the suspect.

Detectives were on the scene early Wednesday. No further details were immediately available.
