MIAMI (AP) -- A police officer is recovering from stab wounds and a suspect is dead following a confrontation near Miami International Airport.
Miami-Dade police responded to a shooting call around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and found the wounded officer. The dead suspect was nearby. It wasn't clear how the officer was stabbed or what kind of weapon was used.
Police say the 54-year-old officer - whose name has not been released - was approached by a suspicious man at a Shell gas station near the airport. A violent confrontation occurred during which the officer was stabbed multiple times before he pulled his gun and fired.

The suspect died at the scene and the officer was taken to a hospital in serious condition.
The suspect's name has not been released. An investigation continues.
