ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say a Brazilian man tried to take 27 snakes he bought at a breeder's expo onto his flight to San Paulo.
The Orlando Sentinel ( http://thesent.nl/R77p8L ) reports Mateus Dal Maso was stopped Wednesday as he tried to board the plane at Orlando International Airport.
Authorities say Dal Maso wrapped the snakes in nylon stockings and hid them inside stereo speakers in his luggage. The reptiles were spotted by screeners.
Officials say he bought the snakes in Daytona Beach.
The Sentinel reports that Dal Maso at first denied having anything other than electronics inside his bag. But he later admitted to federal authorities that the snakes were in the bag.
The newspaper says he was found guilty of exporting illegal merchandise. He was fined $6,000.
