MIAMI (AP) -- Police say one of their officers shot a suspected burglar who was wielding a pickax in a neighborhood on the edge of Coral Gables.
The incident happened around 9:25 p.m. Monday.
Miami-Dade police officers responding to a burglary in progress call were confronted by a suspect who refused multiple commands to drop the pickax. At that point an officer shot the suspect.
The suspect was taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami where he was listed in serious but stable condition.
No police officers were injured. No further details were immediately available.
