Lorraine Alicea, a Walmart pharmacy tech, arrested for theft of prescription medication

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- A Port St. Lucie Walmart pharmacy tech was arrested Wednesday on charges of stealing prescription medications from the store.

Police were called to the Walmart on 10855 South US Highway 1 on May 22 when the store's loss prevention officer told police that Lorraine Alicea had offered controlled substances, particularly Alprazolam, to customers.

The security worker said Alicea wrongfully used her authority as a technician to print duplicate labels of previously filled prescriptions on three occasions.

Alicea was charged with six counts of obtaining or attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud and affixing a forged label on controlled substances of Hydrocodone and Alprazolam.

When questioned by police, Alicea said she could not positively confirm nor deny the allegations, as she frequently had black-outs or memory loss of entire time periods, according to an incident report.

She also claimed that she had been having severe anxiety and problems sleeping, and as a result of the stressful environments and medications, she couldn't recall her actions in question, detectives said.

Information on Alicea's actions was obtained through time-stamped video surveillance and a "Touch Report."

The report showed Hydrocodone and Alprazolam label reprints by Alicea spanning from February to April 2012.

Pill inventory at the Port St. Lucie pharmacy showed a deficit of about 900 Alprazolam and 2200 Hydrocodone pills.
