LAUDERHILL — One Lauderhill police officer shot at a fellow officer around 7:30 p.m. Saturday but the bullet missed, police said.

The officer who fired was taken into custody on Saturday night, Police Capt. Constance Stanley said in an email sent shortly before 11 p.m.

The shooting took place near Inverrary Boulevard and Northwest 56 Avenue in the heart of Lauderhill.

Lauderhill police department officials would not characterize the incident or release the names of either officer on Saturday.

"We're not giving out names," Stanley said. "They work together on the same shift. One officer was working a detail."

Davie police's Special Response Team "apprehended a subject that was sought after by the Lauderhill Police Department," Davie Sgt. Christopher Chastain said. He referred questions to Lauderhill police.

Stanley declined to release further details, saying the department will launch an internal investigation.

Stanley said both officers had been on the force for a few years and were not rookies. "I can't give out a whole lot," she said
