HALLANDALE BEACH — A report of a car burglary turned into a police chase through three Broward County cities early Sunday and ended with the arrests of three young suspects. One of the men was shot in the arm.
The incident began at 1:50 a.m. when officers were called to investigate a reported burglary in the parking lot of the Cheetah Hallandale Beach, a strip club at 100 Ansin Blvd., according to Hallandale Beach police spokeswoman Capt. Sonia Quinones.
When the officers arrived, Quinones said the suspects jumped in their car and sped off. The chase moved from Hallandale Beach north to Hollywood and into Dania Beach.
The suspects' car finally stopped in the 300 block of S. Federal Highway, and the four men inside jumped out and ran, said Quinones. One door of the suspects' car struck the side of an unmarked police car that had pulled up alongside it, she said.
Joining in the hunt for the four fleeing suspects were Broward Sheriff's deputies and Hollywood police.
Three of the suspects were caught in the vicinity of Stirling Road and U.S. 1, Quinones said. One, a 14-year-old, was hit in the arm by a shot fired by a BSO deputy.
In a statement, BSO spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said, "A BSO Deputy came in contact with a suspect in the area of 21st Avenue and SE 2nd Court and fired his weapon, causing a very minor graze on the suspect's arm."
He did not require hospitalization, said Concepcion.
Neither the boy or the officer who fired was identified.
Theodore Mayo, 18, was captured by a BSO officer working with a police dog. A third suspect, Leon Lindo, 18, was also arrested. Their addresses were not available.
Mayo is being held on a burglary charge, while Lindo is charged with resisting arrest by obstructing an officer with violence.
The fourth suspect, the driver of the car, is still on the loose, said Quinones.
"This is an incident that we take very seriously," said Quinones. "If we receive a report of a car burglary, we are definitely going to investigate. We also want to know what other crimes they may be involved in."
Lindo and Mayo were being held Sunday in the Broward Main Jail. The 14-year-old was referred to juvenile authorities.
