Jermaine Green, 32, a former local football standout was shot several times by Daytona Beach police officers during a domestic dispute after he stabbed a woman in the chest, police said.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Police say officers have shot and wounded a man holding a knife to a woman at a Daytona Beach home.
Authorities say police were called to the home early Wednesday, forced their way inside and saw the man holding a knife to a woman's throat.
Police Chief Mike Chitwood tells WESH-TV that officers ordered the man he identified as Jermaine Green to drop the knife.
Chitwood says Green "begins to press the knife into her chest and officers were left with no other choice than to open fire."
Police say Green was hit several times while the woman was shot once in the arm.
Green is in critical condition at a hospital.
Chitwood says the woman "appears to be doing ok."
No further details were immediately available.
