Jeffrey Allen Wright killed by Santa Rosa County Sheriff's deputies while being served warrant

NAVARRE, Fla. - Three Panhandle law enforcement officers were placed on administrative leave Monday after the fatal shooting of a man who had barricaded himself in his home.

Three members of the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office SWAT team fired on 55-year-old Jeffrey Allen Wright Saturday after they had tried to serve him with a felony arrest warrant for counterfeiting, the Northwest Florida Daily News reported.

Authorities said Wright was told several times to come out of the home unarmed, but that he instead told officers to come into the home and get him.

They said Wright had begun to break out the windows in his home using a handgun.

Authorities said the three deputies will remain on paid administrative leave until the Florida Department of Law Enforcement completes an investigation of the shooting.

On Monday, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office released details of another in September incident involving Wright.

According to reports from several deputies, Wright was stopped after traveling more than 71 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone.

Wright refused to give the arresting officer information about himself or his car and instead showed the officer a paper titled "Affidavit of Reservation of Rights."

He was jailed on a charge of resisting arrest without violence.

In their reports, arresting officers said it appeared Wright belonged to a group that did not recognize the authority of the U.S. government.
