EVERGLADES, Fla. - Contractors working for the South Florida Water Management District stumbled across the stuff of nightmares.

The workers were in the Everglades to control exotic vegetation. Instead they found an exotic pest.

In their path they found a python estimated between 16 and 18 feet in length.

Take a close look and you can see it had eaten not long before its photo was taken.

There was a bulge in the snake's body that was about 3-and-a-half feet around.

What it ate wasn't clear.

The reptile was put down.
