George Zimmerman, Trayvon Martin case witness names could be released by state soon

SANFORD, Fla. -- If George Zimmerman goes to trial in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, anyone who witnessed the deadly conflict may be vital to jurors deciding the case. But prosecution and defense attorneys have said they're concerned about what could happen if important civilian witnesses are identified publicly before trial, reports The Orlando Sentinel .

The Orlando Sentinel reports that when a large portion of the case evidence was released last week, 22 witnesses were identified only by number -- one of which is a South Florida girl who says she was on the phone with Trayvon in the moments before his death.

According to the Orlando Sentinel , media companies are expected to intervene and force the state to release the names, in what boils down to a struggle between the public's right to know and the defendant's right to a fair trial.

On June 1, Judge Kenneth Lester will hear arguments on a motion to seal witness information and other evidence, according to The Orlando Sentinel .
