Florida settles most of lawsuit on voting list

 TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida election officials will tell counties to inform 2,500 voters who were on a list of potential non-citizens that they are eligible to cast ballots in November.

   The letters are part of a settlement reached Wednesday with several groups that work with immigrants, Haitian-Americans and Puerto Ricans. It claimed, in part, that the effort to remove non-citizens from voting lists was discriminatory because most people on the list were Hispanic.

   The groups will drop most of the lawsuit it filed in Miami against the state.

   The state will tell elections supervisors to inform listed voters that they are eligible to vote unless it has been proven they aren't a citizen. The state will also restore any voters that were wrongfully removed from rolls.
