NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - An elderly New Port Richey man with machine guns and ammunition in his possession asked police to take his life before he was taken to jail Wednesday, police said.
New Port Richey police responded to a complaint that Charles Earle Duffy, 70, was standing in front of his home on Wyoming Avenue holding two handguns.
When police arrived, Duffy wasn’t holding any guns, but a number of firearms were found near his front door.
Authorities said Duffy asked officers to kill him. He was taken into custody and detectives came to the scene to conduct an investigation.
Thousands of rounds of ammunition and six machine guns were found and taken into evidence.
Charles Duffy was arrested and taken to the Land O' Lakes jail. He’s been charged with six counts of possession of machine guns.
The investigation is ongoing.
