STUART, Fla. - Law enforcement across the state of Florida are reminding drivers to drive sober or get pulled over this holiday season.
Starting this weekend and going through New Year's Day, law enforcement will be out in greater numbers, prepared to arrest anyone caught driving drunk behind the wheel.
The Stuart Police Department reports that in December of 2009, 753 people were killed in crashes that involved drivers or motorcycle riders with blood alcohol levels of .08 or greater.
Some tips to keep you safe this season:
- Plan a way home before the party begins
- Before your first sip of alcohol, designate a sober driver and leave car keys at home
- If you're impaired, use a taxi, call a sober driver, or use public transportation
- If you see a drunk driver on the road, contact law enforcement immediately
- If you know somebody is going to drive while impaired, take their car keys and help them make other arrangements
