PHOENIX -- Two BMX riders were the other victims of a crash near Wickenburg that also killed an Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopter pilot.

Florida-based Sputnic BMX says Rickey Bates and Gary Dimartine were driving Tuesday night to Phoenix from a trade show in Las Vegas when their SUV tried to pass another car on U.S. 93 and crashed head-on into the DPS vehicle.

The Arizona Republic says Bates was from Casselbury, Fla., and Dimartine was from Galloway. N.J. Their ages weren't immediately available Thursday.

The crash killed 46-year-old Matthew Uhl of Chandler, who had been flying for the DPS since 2006.

DPS officials say Uhl normally works in the Phoenix area, but he was going to Kingman to cover a shift at the department's western regional air rescue unit.
