HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- A Hollywood man is facing child sex trafficking charges after federal authorities said he used Facebook to entice a 16-year-old girl into prostitution.
Julius Wayne Baker, aka "Jahquawn" and "Lion", pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking of a minor and attempted sex trafficking of a minor on Monday in federal court in Miami. He is being held without bond because he is considered a danger to the community.
The girl, identified only as "K.U." in court records, told FBI agents she worked as a prostitute for Baker, 32, between July and October 2011 after he sent her a message on her Facebook page asking if she wanted to work for him.
It was unclear from court records if the two knew each other beforehand. An agent who later saw the messages wrote that Baker asked the girl to "join his team" and told her she could make "as much as $3,500 a week for 'tricking or selling' and asked her to call him if she was interested."
Baker took photographs of her naked — and also photographed her in a dress and underwear — then used those images to set up prostitution assignments, she told agents.
The girl said she went on more than 100 "prostitution dates" – mostly at a motel on Federal Highway in Hollywood – and had to give her money to Baker at the end of the night. Baker would return 40 percent of the money to her, she said.
Baker bought escort service ads for the girl and also prostituted other women and at least one other juvenile, according to court records.
The girl said Baker told her to charge clients $180 an hour or $80 for half an hour.
After the girl was arrested in October for a crime investigators did not identify, she was sent to the Broward Girls Academy, a residential center for juvenile offenders in Pembroke Pines.
One day after she was released on July 2, Baker sent her a message on Facebook and tried to lure her back to prostitution in a follow-up phone call, agents wrote.
The girl contacted federal authorities and cooperated in setting up recorded phone calls with Baker during which agents said he tried to tempt her back into prostitution and offered her a slightly better rate than before.
Baker was arrested on July 20. If convicted, he faces between ten years and life in prison per federal charge.
FBI agents said Baker is a convicted felon and has other charges pending in state court including allegations of performing lewd and lascivious acts on a minor, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a weapon by a felon, and resisting an officer with violence.
