Fairway Elementary School Bacterial meningitis: Miramar elementary school warns parents of case

MIRAMAR, Fla. -- Parents have been asked to watch their children carefully after a case of bacterial meningitis has been reported at a South Florida elementary school.

The Broward School District said Wednesday that letters have been sent home to parents of children at Fairway Elementary School in Miramar.

Miami's NBC 6 reports Principal Michelle Engram-McKnight informed parents of the symptoms they should watch for. They include high fever, chills, intense headaches, nausea, vomiting, neck stiffness and a rash.

Officials say children showing any symptoms should be taken to a doctor right away.

School officials say students showing symptoms can't return to school until they have a note from a doctor saying they are no longer contagious.
