TAMPA - Debra Lafave, the former Hillsborough County teacher who pleaded guilty to having sex with a student, faced a local judge who placed her back on probation Thursday morning.

In 2011, another Hillsborough judge released Lafave from probation over objections from prosecutors and the victim's family.

His ruling was overturned in August by an appellate court, which ruled that the judge had abused his power.  The Florida Supreme Court later turned down Lafave's request to end her probation.

Thursday's ruling by Hillsborough Circuit Judge Lisa Campbell served as an official reinstatement of probation.

Lafave has four years and two months of probation remaining.

Lafave gained national attention for having sex with a 14-year-old student in 2004.  She pleaded guilty in 2005 to two counts of lewd and lascivious battery. She was sentenced to three years house arrest and seven years probation.
