Death of bin Laden stirs strong feelings for father of Plant City Marine killed in Afghanistan

PLANT CITY, Fla. - The death of Osama bin Laden stirs strong feelings for a Florida father, whose son lost his life fighting the war in Afghansitan.

Last Thursday, Marine Lance Cpl. Ronald D. Freeman was killed by an improvised explosive device in the Helmand Province.

The 25-year old Plant City native left behind a wife, a new born son and a daughter who turned one on the day he died.

The news of bin Laden's death brings little relief to a grieving father.

"My pain will be eternal. He's just another flash in the pan, he's just another news article, he's nothing to me," said Douglas Freeman.

"Personally a lot of it hurts me because he died and he died with one of his sons well my son died and i am more or less dead from all this."

According to WFLA.com , Lance Corporal Freeman's body returned home yesterday at MacDill Air Force base.

There have been more than 2,300 deaths of coalition forces in Afghanistan since 2001, according to the Department of Defense.
