PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The search for Christopher Reyna has been temporarily called off, according to several law enforcement agencies on the Treasure Coast.
U.S. Marshals, Port St. Lucie police and St. Lucie County Sheriff's deputies tried to track down the 27-year old Wednesday night.
According to investigators, U.S. Marshals tracked down Reyna in a Port St. Lucie neighborhood, after searching for him for several months. Authorities say Reyna fled from the Broward Transitional Center in Pompano last November.
When marshals tried to approach him in a Port St. Lucie neighborhood, he fled on foot from the car he was in toward a nearby shopping plaza. Authorities from several agencies filled the Darwin Square shopping plaza, and searched every store inside. But Reyna got away. Authorities set up another perimeter along Becker Road, and searched on the ground and in the air for the escapee.
Around midnight, authorities called off the search. Now, they're asking residents to be extra vigilant, and keep an eye out for Reyna.
Detectives say he is to be considered dangerous, and say not to approach him if you see him. Reyna has numerous tattoos, including "1986" tattooed across his neck. He's 5-feet, 11 inches tall and weighs 175 pounds.
In November 2011, Reyna was sentenced to three years in prison for grand theft and trafficking in stolen property. He also served 18 months in prison between 2008 and 2010 for selling drugs and possessing a weapon within 1,000 feet of a school or daycare in 2004. He was 18 years when he committed those crimes, according to state records.
Anyone seeing Reyna is urged to call the Port St. Lucie Police Department or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at (800) 273-TIPS.
