Charter schools to receive $55 million funding for maintenance, public schools to receive nothing

Charter schools appear to be the big winners when it comes to funding for school maintenance projects this coming school year.

That's according to the Orlando Sentinel which reports that the state's 350 charter schools are slated to split $55 million for repairs such as painting, roofing and plumbing.

The newspaper says that Florida's three thousand traditional public schools will get nothing. Some argue that the number of charter schools is growing while traditional public schools seem to be losing students, justifying charter schools receiving the money.

Others argue that this is taking money away from mainstream public schools which have been around longer, so they need more money for repairs.
