Central Florida soldier killed in Afghanistan

LONGWOOD, Fla. — Pentagon officials say a soldier from central Florida has been killed in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense said Saturday that Pfc. Theodore B. Rushing of Longwood died Friday in Afghanistan's Kandahar Province. Officials say the 25-year-old died of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

Rushing was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment; 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light), at Fort Drum, N.Y.
