A 62-year-old Conch Key woman who the Monroe County Sheriff's Office says is known as "the sea hag" is accused of fatally shooting a man who refused to give her a beer.
The incident happened Sunday night at a home on North Conch Avenue in the Middle Keys.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Carolyn Dukeshire shot Martin Mazur five times in the abdomen, back and arm when she asked for a beer and he refused.
The man who was with Mazur, Casey Whippo, 30, told investigators that he and Mazur had just returned from having dinner at the Brass Monkey in Marathon and were sitting outside and had just opened a beer. Whippo said Dukeshire walked around the side of the house and asked if she could have one.
When Mazur, refused, Dukeshire opened fire, the Sheriff's Office said.
After the shooting, Whippo restrained Dukeshire's arms but she still managed to toss the gun into a canal behind the house before sitting down and waiting for deputies to arrive.
When paramedics arrived, Mazur was still alive but later died at Fisherman's Hospital, the Sheriff's Office said.
Dukeshire was booked into the Monroe County Jail on a charge of first-degree premeditated murder.
