Broward College Central campus no longer locked down after alert about possible gunman

Reports of a person with a gun put Broward College's Central campus in Davie and nearby public schools under an alert Thursday afternoon.

At 1:15 p.m., the Broward College alert system sent out a notification reporting a “possible armed intruder on Central Campus.” People were advised to stay off campus or seek shelter.

Shortly before 2:15 p.m. the all clear was given, according to Davie Police Captain Dale Engle.

During the incident, several nearby Broward County Public Schools were also put on alert, according to spokeswoman Tracy Clark.

“We do have schools in the area that have taken the appropriate measures,” Clark said. 

According to Broward Schools District spokeswoman Nadine Drew, six schools were briefly locked down after Davie Police alerted officials.

The following schools, some of which share a campus, were locked down:

Nova Blanche Forman Elementary School

Nova Eisenhower Elementary School

Nova Middle School

Nova High School

Davie Elementary School

McFatter Technical Center

Those schools includes the Nova schools, McFatter Technical Institute and Davie Elementary. She said officials were monitoring the situation.

In August, the college sent out a similar alert and six public schools were locked down after three students got into a fight on Broward College’s Central Campus.
