TAMPA - Tampa police arrested a suspect in the shooting death of a pregnant woman near Blake High School Wednesday afternoon.
The victim, 22-year-old Brianna Anderson, was 8-months pregnant.
Police say her boyfriend, 22-year-old Jamar Silas, pulled the trigger. He is charged with felon in possession of a firearm. Murder charges against Silas are pending.
Tampa police say family and friends of Brianna Anderson gathered around her beside tonight to say goodbye. Now, her family says, just as she brought life into this world today, Brianna is saving lives. Her family donated her organs.
It is a sad end for a family sent through a rollercoaster of emotions.
Initial reports indicated that Anderson died from the shooting, but officials say the mother was revived on the way to the hospital.
Officials say Brianna's daughter was delivered via C-section and that the baby is doing fine.
The shooting happened shortly before 4 p.m. at 919 West Chestnut Street. Anderson was inside her home when she was shot.
Neighbors told the ABC affiliate in Tampa that the couple's relationships was tumultuous.
"Word around is, he's been physically abusive to her," said Maurice Harris, a neighbor.
Officials placed Just Elementary, Stewart Middle High, West Tampa Elementary and Dunbar Elementary on a modified lockdown shortly after the shooting.
Mayor Bob Buckhorn was also on the scene, although it is not yet clear why.
Following a brief pursuit, police were able to take the male suspect into custody without incident.

A background check on Silas revealed he has been charged with burglary, grand theft, home invasion and dealing in stolen property. He was most recently arrested on September 13.
