HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - A baby pygmy sperm whale has died after it washed ashore in South Florida.

Hallandale Beach Fire Rescue officials say the whale, which was only 3-feet long, was found Thursday night.

A veterinarian from Marine Animal Rescue Society tried to save it. However, due to the mammal's young age and condition, it had to be euthanized.

NOAA took possession of the whale and will perform a necropsy.
