LAKELAND, Fla. - An alligator in Lake Wales nearly ended a 75-year-old golfer's life.

Al Miller says he was retrieving a ball from a water hazard at the 15th hole when the nine-foot gator latched on to him and wouldn't let go.

Miller says the gator had him waist deep in the water when for some reason it just released him.

The golfer's buddies pulled him into a golf cart and got him to an ambulance.

He's now home recovering.

The gator was caught and euthanized.
