ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- A small plane crashed at a city-owned airport in St. Petersburg, killing one and seriously injuring another.
The crash happened shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Police say a single-engine plane was taking off from the runway at Albert Whitted Airport when it crashed. Witnesses say the plane ascended about 100 feet, then the engine sputtered and the plane took a nose dive into the ground.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Another was taken to an area hospital and is in stable condition.
The names of the victims and their destination weren't immediately known.
