A missing 12-year-old North Carolina girl was found safe in Hallandale Beach on Wednesday and the registered sex offender she was with was arrested, according to the FBI.

An Amber Alert had been issued for Abigale Lefevers who was last seen at her home in Newport, N.C., on Sunday night.

Authorities were searching for Timothy Newman, who was thought to be driving a 1998 Chrysler Sebring with a red body, a black roof and a North Carolina tag number AKT-6534, the alert said.

Pictures of Lefevers were being circulated with the hope someone would recognize her and call police.

Hallandale Beach Police spotted Newman's car on South Dixie Highway and he was taken into custody without incident.

It's unclear if the girl went with Newman voluntarily. Her father, Robert Lefevers, was quoted as saying authorities had tracked the pair through the use of his stolen debit card in Florida.
