TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- A Florida Panhandle man has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting a woman.
A Leon County judge sentenced 31-year-old Jarvis McBride on Wednesday after a jury convicted him of first-degree murder.
Prosecutors say McBride and 26-year-old Ashleigh Jacobs got into a fight at a garbage facility in March 2012. Jacobs locked herself inside her car, but McBride shot her through the rear driver-side door as she reached for her cell phone. The Tallahassee Democrat reports that Jacobs' body was found the next morning with seven gunshot wounds.
McBride's defense attorney said surveillance video showed at least two people in the car at the transfer station that night. He said two men who were with McBride earlier in the night could be responsible for the shooting.
