(EndPlay Staff Reports) - A Facebook video described by one YouTube listener as "Christian rock, but with Facebook in the place of God" is making the rounds as the social media giant releases its IPO.
The "Thank You Facebook Song," created by fans and posted to YouTube on the day that Facebook released its IPO, features what The Atlantic Wire called a "very hands-across-America feel."
The Huffington Post reported that it seems to be an international effort by fans from Italy, Australia, Singapore, the UK and Hollywood, many who had never met face to face.
Its multi-culturalism can be seen in the diversity of the people in the video, shown singing, celebrating and photographing each other with their smartphones.
Its refrain goes:
Facebook – (I wanna thank you)
I wanna thank you
For bring-in' to me
My friends and family – yeah …
Facebook – (I wanna thank you)
I wanna thank you
For bringin' to me
the world community – yeah …
The full lyrics can be seen on the group's Facebook page.
"Our song simply expresses gratitude. The gratitude we feel for our dear friends and family and gratitude to Facebook for connecting us," its creators stated on the page. "Thank You!"
As of Tuesday morning the Facebook page had generated more than 1,900 likes. More than 70,800 views had been recorded on YouTube where it had 159 likes and 591 dislikes.
The Atlantic Wire called it "so corny that it is also funny." The Huffington Post said its enthusiasm was undeniable.
Not all were kind.
"Be warned – the incessant "Facebook, I want to thank you" refrain will get under your skin like necrotizing fasciitis," Gawker commented. "Anyway, enjoy."
