WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — No more digging for change when parking in the city of West Palm Beach. Now you can download an app on your smart phone called "Parkmobile" that allows you to pay by phone.
All you have to do is register your car and credit card number and you're set.
West Palm Beach is the first city in our area to make the app available. Dozens of cities nationwide are already signed on, including Washington D.C., and New York City.
Places like Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville are also offering the app payment option.
The app can be downloaded by visiting parkmobile.com or searching for Parkmobile in the app store on your smartphone.
Users will can have up to five license plates on an account so multiple family members can pay from the same bank account. The app also sends you a message when 15 minutes is remaining on the meter, so you can add more time from any location.
“We’re always trying to come up with new ideas to make it easier for our customers,” West Palm Beach's parking administrator told the Palm Beach Post. “We were one of the first to provide a toll-free number to call to pay for parking. Now we’re among the first to make it even easier by offering an app for your phone.”City officials are holding a news conference Friday to officially announce the new app payment system.
