Various publications reported the Nexus 4 sold out quickly after it went on sale Tuesday.

According to afr.com, stock was quickly depleted at Google’s online Play shop and shoppers were asked to leave email addresses to be notified when more are available.

Cnet.com noted the phones previously sold out quickly when they went on sale in Great Britain.

Zdnet.com reported that Google has begun updating Nexus 7 tablets with Android 4.2.

Here's what Google had to say about the frenzy:

There’s been so much interest for the Nexus lineup that we’ve sold out of some of our initial stock in a few countries! We are working hard to add more Nexus devices to Google Play in the coming weeks to keep up with the high demand. You can learn more about Nexus devices and stay updated at play.google.com/nexus .
