There were plenty of fireworks on the 4th. Not only in the sky, but the solar system.

NASA released some amazing images from the sun's surface.

They show a solar flare so powerful it disrupted radio communications over Europe.
 
It also sent electrically-charged particles shooting into space that just might sweep past earth's magnetic field in time to spark some auroral fireworks.
