iPhone 5: The cost of owning an i-Phone can go well beyond the initial purchase

Apple (AAPL) was among the top gainers in the Nasdaq-100 and in the S&P 500 following rumors that the iPhone 5S could hit shelves as early as this summer, though the widespread expectation is for a fall release.

The cost of owning an i-Phone can go well beyond the initial purchase.

A new study by SquareTrade finds that Americans have spent nearly six-billion-dollars on i-Phone repairs since 2007.  

30-percent of i-Phone owners have done some form of damage to their phone in the past year.  

The most common accidents happen when the phone falls out of a user's hand or it is immersed in liquid.  


The new i-Phone 5 went on sale today (Friday).  

The latest version is 18-percent thinner and 20-percent lighter than the i-Phone 4-S.
