Tech blogs are buzzing after rumors of a new design for the next version of Apple's popular smartphone: the iPhone 5.
Rumored to be going on sale in October, the new phone will have a smaller, 19-pin doc connector at its bottom, rather than the 30-pin port on the current iPhone and iPad.
That means Apple users who use the connector for all of their Apple accessories and products will no longer be able to do so -- that includes things like speakers and power chargers.
According to two sources that spoke with Reuters, this design change was done to "make room for the earphone moving to the bottom."
The change would also allow the phone to be thinner.
Meanwhile, analysts predict the iPhone 5 will be Apple's best selling smartphone yet.
Apple Inc. will report its third quarter financial results after the markets close today. Sales of iPads could help the company bounce back from somewhat disappointing second-quarter figures, but the prospect of a new iPhone this fall may have put a drag on sales of the current model.
