Superstorm Sandy reminds us all how important it is to know what's in your home, in case we need to make an insurance claim. And to get help with insurance claims -- all you need is your smartphone.

Check out these five smartphone apps for filing insurance claims:

-Many insurance carriers have their own apps. Just search for the carrier's name in the Apple or Google Play Store.

-The Safe App  for the iPhone and iPad lets you to store and organize any important files or personal information you'd typically store in a real safe.  

-The Insurance Information Institute has a free app called "Know Your Stuff". It's for Apple and Android devices.  

- Home Inventory is another very helpful iPhone app.  Y ou go room-by-room to document all your possessions with photos, serial numbers and value estimates.  

- The Insurance Claims Recorder is a way to record claims interviews both in person and over the phone.
