Video game maker Atari is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
The company, along with three of its affiliates, has filed for bankruptcy protection in court in New York.
Atari was a trailblazer in developing video games in the '70s and '80s.
Atari's now focusing on smartphone apps and Internet-based games.
Through bankruptcy, Atari hopes to separate itself from its French parent company in the next several months.
It hopes to find a buyer to go private.
