With hundreds of kids trick-or-treating Thursday for Halloween, we’ve compiled a list of safety tips for parents on Safety Alert Day.
1. Make sure your child’s costume is well lit
It will help them keep safe from vehicles. A variety of glow sticks, necklaces, bracelets and reflectors can do the trick.
2. Drivers should slow down
Stay alert if your are cruising around a neighborhood while kids are out. Remember, children may forget to stop, look and listen when crossing the street.
3. Pumpkin carving supervision
Parents who are carving pumpkins with their children should always supervise. Using candles can be hazardous. Instead , use LED tea lights or flashlights. Always make sure the pumpkin is secure on a sturdy table and away from flammable items.
4. Keep track of family with technology
Keep track of your family while trick-or-treating by downloading a free GPS app. Life 360 offers a free app that will keep track of your loved ones just in case you split up.
The FBI also offers a free Child ID app where you can create a profile of your child just in case they get lost or come up missing. The sex offender app is also free to download to know where offenders live.
