PEANUT ISLAND, Fla. - A boat and dock at Peanut Island was on fire, 14 people were injured, and one was trapped under a capsized boat.
That was the scenario used for a drill carried out Monday by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, the Coast Guard and other agencies.
The agencies come together each year to simulate emergencies on the water that are similar to ones that happened in Palm Beach County.
This year’s simulated a boat explosion and subsequent fire on a dock in Delray Beach in January that killed one man.
One rescuer said, “Everything can always be handled better. We like to fine tune them so we can handle them the best possible.”
Officials from each agency will gather on Thursday to discuss what could have been improved upon in this drill.
