WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Some realtors have started encouraging their clients to send letters to potential landlords with their offers.
"We just really want to bring a human element into the transaction. A lot of people are used to looking at leases, applications, and that sort of thing, but we really want to introduce our clients to the new landlord to get them started on the right foot," Brent Enck with Modern Living Real Estate said.
Shannon Steudlein says she knew she wanted to find a place in Downtown West Palm Beach. When she found the perfect place, she offered the asking price, but that wasn't enough. Her realtor told her to write a letter to the landlord.
"I just talked about where I grew up, where I have been living the last few years, and why I wanted to move to the downtown area," Steudlein said.
Shannon ended up getting the apartment. Realtor Brent Enck says the personalized notes to sellers and landlords are making all the difference in today's competitive market.
"Three people can send an offer of over 1200 dollars, but if we have the offer at 1200 with the letter introducing themselves, where they are from, their family, their employer, people can really connect with that," Enck said.
Some realtors even encourage clients to send pictures of themselves and their dogs. One tip is to compliment the seller in your note about how nice their home is.
"In the world we live in now with text messages, emails, and everything being electronic, it is so nice to put a face to a name," Steudlein said.
Enck says the trend is becoming more popular.
