South Bay, Fla. - The small Ford pickup truck charred beyond recognition.
"It rolled all the way across the median," said Sergeant John Churchill with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
Before flames consumed the vehicle, a father and his 3 sons, ages 12, 9, and 6, were headed North on U.S. 27.
"We have information from witnesses that say for some reason the vehicle lost control, we don't have information that there was any other vehicle involved at this time," said Sgt. Churchill.
According to deputies, the truck came off the road into a grassy median, rolled over and caught on fire.
Bystanders helped pull the family from the four-wheeled inferno.
"They were able to assist in getting them out before the thing went up completely," said Sgt. Churchill.
Paramedics transported the driver via Trauma Hawk to Delray Medical Center
2 of his sons followed in an ambulance.
The third, was still lying in the median hours after the accident.
Medical examiners pronounced him dead on scene.
"We understand the children are in good shape at Delray medical, so we're going to start there, getting names and other information like that," said Sgt. Churchill.
Vehicle homicide investigators continue to investigate the crash, and do not know what caused the accident.
