PAHOKEE, Fla. - Investigators are searching for answers in cases of murder and mystery in western Palm Beach County. A woman went missing and - in what they say is a separate case - her child's baby-sitter was found murdered.
The incidents being are investigated by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, both of which are shocking loved ones from Palm Beach County to Pompano Beach.
Gospel music filled the air around the childhood home of Crystal Anderson, 57, in Pompano Beach Tuesday night.
"In Gospel music, it is an uplifting of the soul no matter what you are going through," said Bernard Taylor, Anderson's nephew.
Anderson grew up in Pompano, but was found murdered in her most recent home in Pahokee early Tuesday.
"Auntie, you were my best friend," said her Bernard. "You were my heart. You were my backbone when I didn't have a backbone."
Anderson left Pompano for Pahokee more than a decade ago - alone - and on a mission.
"Every other person in Pahokee knows Ms. Chrys," said Daisy Taylor, Anderson's mother. Daisy says Crystal was helping the small western Palm Beach County community any way she could.
"She would just give you the brightest smile and I'm not even joking when I say this," said Bernard. "It was just something about her spirit that just gave you peace," he said.
Anderson's family says she provided meals for those who did not have them and would also baby-sit - which is where this story takes another grim turn.
Anderson often watched over the children of Deborah Jessie - who right now is missing - and has been since this weekend. Investigators have been scouring Jessie's Pahokee home and the surrounding area. Jessie's car was found at the Palm Beach Golf Center in Riviera Beach Tuesday, but there is still no sign of the 23-year old.
Authorities say Jessie had recently filed for a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend Jammy Washington. A hearing concerning allegations of domestic abuse was supposed to take place Tuesday. Washington was interviewed by authorities but has not been named a suspect.
"I'm sad a little bit and I'm glad a little bit because she won't suffer anymore," said Daisy. "She won't worry anymore."
At this point, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is not saying that the missing woman and the murder are connected.
Anyone with information about the cases is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
