PAHOKEE — The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says shots were fired at Everglades Preparatory Academy in Pahokee Tuesday afternoon. The school was placed on lockdown for a time.
According to the sheriff's office, a student was walking in a hall between classes when he heard gunshots aimed his way.
He then darted into a classroom. He was not hurt.
Witnesses said they saw three or 4 people running, or on bikes, leave the area.
The school is located at 360 East Main Street in Pahokee.
NewsChannel 5's Ryan Calhoun reports a crime scene was set up across the street from school grounds and shell casings were seen on the ground.
Deputies called in K-9 units and the PBSO helicopter, but so far a search has come up empty.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
