CANAL POINT, Fla. - Gayle Moran, a Central Florida woman, disappeared two years ago. She remained missing until two weeks ago when a Canal Point man literally stumbled upon her remains in a field.
Billy Cole was paying respects to his cousin, James Jones, who died in a car wreck in 2005.
Jones crashed on Highway 441 near the Palm Beach County/Martin County line.
It was at that same crash site that Cole found the skeletal remains of Moran of Lake Placid.
“I never thought I was going to run up on anything like that," said Cole.
Moran's family says she left her Lake Placid home after an odd night in July 2009.
Reached by phone, Moran’s daughter said Gayle Moran’s husband was in bad health and she left in the middle of the night.
Two years went by with no answers.
A nationwide search followed and a website was built in her name.
All the while, her SUV had flipped on Highway 441 in Martin County, about 18 miles from Okeechobee.
Moran's daughter says she's overwhelmingly saddened, but has relief and closure.
Cole said he was glad to inadvertently help.
"I just want to say I hope this brings closure to somebody out there for their loved one," said Cole.
