BELLE GLADE, Fla. - A Belle Glade man accused of neglecting six dogs was arrested on animal cruelty charges Thursday.
The arrest came after Palm Beach County Animal Control officers reported last month their discovery of the dogs being kept at a South Bay home, with little food or water.
The majority of animals were emaciated and one puppy had to be euthanized, a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office arrest affidavit stated.
Deputies arrested Roy Lee Boston, 42, Thursday and booked him into the West Detention Center in Belle Glade.
According to the affidavit, an animal control officer was working in the area of Eilon Avenue in South Bay when he heard dogs barking and crying at a home nearby.
The officer went to investigate and met with Boston in the back yard. The animals were all removed from the residence and taken to a veterinarian for emergency medical attention.
In subsequent interviews, Boston told investigators that the house is owned by his girlfriend's grandmother and that he was keeping the dogs in the back yard. Five of the dogs were his and one was being kept for a friend, Boston told investigators.
Boston said that he was involved in an accident on Sept. 27 and hospitalized for 10 days. During that period, Boston was unable to arrange for someone to care for the animals, he told investigators.
Boston told investigators that he did not feed or give water to the dogs daily, but stated that he tried to take care of them at least every other day.
